Staff Accountant

Accounting and Finance Department

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the general ledgers of assigned Funds, which includes but is not limited to the preparing monthly journal entries, recording adjusting journal entries resulting from the annual audit, etc.
• Perform monthly closings and allocation of expenses.
• Analyze general ledger account and investigate variances.
• Research and reconcile all discrepancies, including Accounts Payable for all assigned Funds monthly
• Prepare monthly inter-fund and bank reconciliations.
• Record all bank account activities daily.
• Prepare and update audit schedules monthly, year-to-date and annually.
• Prepare monthly cash Flow, and ensure that cash deposited is posted and reconciled daily.
• Prepare quarterly Trustee reports.
• Prepare and upload wire transfers and commingled check requests.
• Assist in the preparation of grant budgets including budget modifications.
• Monitor grant receipts and expenses against budget and assist with grant mid-year and annual reports to Agencies.
• Assist with the preparation of the monthly and annual financial statements and supplemental schedules.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual Directive 12, Form 5500, Form 990 and census filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the field of accounting required with strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) preferred
• Advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel required; knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and knowledge of financial systems and enterprise software (Oracle) preferred
• Knowledge of Non-Profit or Taft Hartley Plans
• Grant accounting experience desired
• Excellent critical thinking and analytical capabilities; excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize work assignments and work independently with minimal supervision
• Must be a team player; able to handle sensitive and confidential situations with integrity, tact & diplomacy
