Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Senior Right of Way Specialist position in our Indianapolis, Indiana office.

Position Profile

This position will work within our Infrastructure Market in the Surveying and Data Collection Discipline on right of way engineering projects for federal, state and local roadway projects. Position requires the ability to work as part of multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute projects for a variety of clients including local governments, state departments of transportation, and private industry throughout Indiana and beyond. It is important that this position can support project teams from initial planning through design to construction. Projects are likely to include reconstruction of major interstates and highways, urban and rural roadway rehabilitation, and replacements. This position is a mid to senior level position geared for professional learning, growth, and responsibility.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

Utilize provided calculations and computer software to prepare right of way parcel documents for client and work efficiently with other team members for accurate and quality document deliverables through to project completion. Design/support and preparation of right-of-way plans for state and local projects Lead Technical staff, Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Specific skill set for include:

  • Experience with: MicroStation, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and Geopak Modeler.
  • Familiarity with INDOT Right of Way Engineering procedures and developing INDOT Location Control Route Surveys Plats and field books from survey-collected data
  • Adhere to project deadlines and keep supervisory staff informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
  • Self-direct, plan, prioritize, organize, accomplish and delegate the work assigned.
  • Read and comprehend recorded deeds, legal descriptions, surveys, subdivision plats and historical right-of-way plans codes and regulations, and technical information to develop drawings.
  • Maintain technical knowledge regarding computers, software, and design techniques.
  • Learn and adapt to new programs and adjust to changes in product and client demands.
  • Execute and adhere to quality assurance requirements.

Education/Certification/Experience:

  • Professional Land Surveyor License or ability to achieve is preferred, but not required
  • Associates Degree in Engineering, Geospatial, Land Surveying is preferred
  • Preferred Education – Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Geospatial or similar is a plus (or land Surveying)
  • Minimum Experience –10 years in Right of Way Engineering/Design and/or Boundary Surveying
  • Experience with Indiana DOT roadway projects is preferred but not required

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to develop and present concepts.
  • Must be able to build effective relationships with internal and external client bases.
  • Strong oral communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
