Welding Engineer
Canton, MI
Must-Haves:
Four-year technical degree or 10+ years of related welding/engineering experience
Experience in resistance welding (preferred)
Automotive manufacturing background strongly preferred
Knowledge of welding processes, robotics, controls, and automation systems
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
Strong project management, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to develop, support, and optimize welding and joining processes within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role involves equipment design and integration, process improvement, training, and collaboration with engineering, production, and leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and support welding and joining equipment, including robotics and control systems
Conduct Weld Excellence training (Basic Welding, T-Joint Weld, Multi-Pass Weld, Weld Symbols, Weld Maps, etc.)
Design, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods and processes
Analyze workflow, workforce utilization, and facility layouts to maximize operational efficiency
Design, specify, and assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, and debugging of welding systems and tooling
Lead process design and development of new production techniques
Establish weld control standards for new products and programs for all weld centers
Coordinate cost estimates, tooling requirements, and change requests
Collaborate with management and engineering teams on production capabilities and schedules
Serve as acting Engineering Manager in their absence
Promote and enforce safety practices, participate in safety initiatives and incident investigations
Support plant goals related to safety, environmental sustainability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications & Skills:
Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience (10+ years)
Experience in resistance welding, robotics integration, and automation systems
Strong knowledge of project management, PLCs, and engineering software
Experience in automotive manufacturing and Lean Manufacturing concepts
Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills
Ability to lead, collaborate across teams, and support equipment troubleshooting
