Job Title: Biostatistician Intern
Location: Raleigh, NC
Job Type: Internship (Hybrid - Onsite 2 times a week)
Educational Standing: Senior, Maters, Doctorate
Dates: May 19 - August 1st 2025
Must be able to attend first day in person
UCB is seeking a science-driven, upper-level undergraduate or graduate student to intern with the Biometrics and Quantitative Sciences (BQS) team. The intern will be part of the Safety Statistics group within the BQS team. The student will work with other statisticians, statistical programmers, and/or data scientists to create tools to deploy statistical methods to evaluate the safety and benefit-risk of treatments.
Responsibilities may include
· Pre-processing of clinical data to understand the structure and content of the data
· Review papers to understand statistical methodology and its application to evaluate the safety or benefit-risk of a treatment
· Generate or review graphics or data summaries from clinical studies
· Contribution to discussions in team meetings
Learning objectives include
· Understand clinical safety signal detection practices and the types of data analyses used for clinical signal detection
· Understand the different approaches to assessing benefit-risk of a treatment and the ways of summarizing data to be understood by non-statistical team members
· Identify approaches for summarizing safety and/or benefit-risk information graphically
· Building a foundation of knowledge clinical development phases and the roles of a statistician throughout the development life cycle
· Gaining scientific and business acumen through exposure to various functions with UCB’s matrix organization
UCB Career Path
Depending on the participant's level of education and any prior experience, the typical career path would be as a Biostatistician followed by a Senior Biostatistician. An entry-level permanent Biostatistician position at UCB would require at least a master’s degree, preferably a PhD, with at least one year of experience. An entry-level Programmer position at UCB would require an undergraduate or master’s degree.
Qualifications
Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student studying statistics or biostatistics
· Programming experience in R
· Programming experience in SAS is preferred but not required
· Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Detail-oriented, thorough, and methodical
· General knowledge of scientific research
