The Division of Mining, Land & Water, Land Survey Section in the Anchorage office has an opening in the Survey Subdivision Unit for a Land Surveyor 2. Mission and Culture
The DNR mission is "To provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state-owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest.”
The Survey Section provides surveying services to manage and maximize the use of more than 100 million acres of state-owned land. Boundary disputes, easement vacations, subdivisions, and the development of state land all require the professional services of the DNR Land Survey Section.
Core Responsibilities
In this position, you will have the opportunity to provide professional surveying services for the Department of Natural Resources, Survey Section’s Subdivision Unit.
This position leads the Subdivision Survey team within the Land Subdivision, Contracting, and Consulting Unit. This team helps identify projects, designs site plans, writes survey instructions, and creates contracts for surveying new subdivisions to support the DNR Land Sales program.
In addition, this position supports other Sections of the Division and departments or state agencies with survey-related activities. Examples include writing legal descriptions, performing area computations for lease agreements, identifying the location of easements, and assisting non-survey staff with understated survey requirements. Working knowledge of Geographic Information System databases and AutoCAD is a must for this position.

The position has a standard 40-hour work week with a flexible schedule.

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Alaska AND one year experience as a registered Land Surveyor.

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in Alaska is required for appointment to this job class. Applicants registered in another state may apply, but appointment is conditional upon receiving Alaskan registration as a Professional Land Surveyor. Registration may be allowed without examination to applicants holding registration in another state with similar requirements.
