The properties team at Target helps create, build, and maintain a joyful physical experience for consumers, teams, and communities. Within Properties, the Property management team strategically manages Target Properties to deliver a superior store environment for our guests and TMs through an innovative, thoughtful, and financially disciplined approach to property management on Value, Reliability and Brand.​

The Data & Insights team’s mission is to harness the power of data to inform critical decisions that enable reliable and on-brand guest experience at every Target location. We are uniquely positioned to drive meaningful analytical projects such as A/B testing, experimentation, statistical analysis to inform Property Management’s evolving strategy in an ever-change environment.
The Data & Insight team:

  • Integrates into the business as strategic analytics partners and anticipates and uncovers stated or unstated needs.
  • Listens and empowers team member and external stakeholder voice
  • Uses our analytics expertise to test, measure, analyze, understand and answer various business questions
  • Provide reporting to help inform on the current state of the business and help facilitate process at scale
  • Connects our understanding across Properties to deliver data driven products and solutions
  • Provide meaningful insights and recommendations
  • Cultivate robust collaborations with technology and data engineering teams to facilitate the implementation of optimal data management practices

About the role:
Our Sr Data Analysts are expected to explore data, technologies, and the application of mathematical techniques to enable business insights.  Data analysts accomplish this through a wide variety of skills including data wrangling, reporting, dashboarding, visualization, statistical analysis, modeling, analytical engineering and the presentation of recommendations and insight.  Analysts will work within an agile environment, which requires active participation in ceremonies to accomplish the team’s goals.  They also develop domain knowledge as they learn about their business area and support applying key data management principles like metadata management, data profiling, and documenting their data lineage.

  • Actively exploring data for specific use cases
  • Expertise in business domain and processes
  • Creating measurable insights from the data to be shared
  • Documenting calculations, code, and adhering to data management principles
  • Validating and testing data assets of others in the form of peer review
  • Exploring statistical analysis that could be applied to the data
  • Performing descriptive statistics including mean, variance, median, correlation
  • Applies insights and testing in partnership with business users
  • Active participant in team meetings
  • Ability to work independently to turn business problems into data solutions
  • Willing and eager to learn business domain and analytical techniques to elevate team performance
  • Support data infrastructure activities such as connecting, standardizing and automating various data sources
  • Support team operations such as backlog organization, documentation, education & communication material of data products

Requirement: 

  • Four-year degree with 3+ years of experience as a Data Analyst with strong academic performance in a quantitative field; or strong equivalent experience [add any specific analyst experience needed here]
  • Advanced SQL experience writing complex queries
  • Intermediately accomplished with Python or R
  • Solid problem solving, analytical skills, data curiosity, data mining, Data creation and consolidation
  • Support conclusions with a clear, understandable story that leverages descriptive statistics, basic inferential statistics, and data visualizations
  • Willingness to ask questions about business objectives and the measurement needs for a project workstream, and be able to measure objectives & key results
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak to both business and technical teams, and translate ideas between them
  • Knowledge of AB Testing methods, time series, S&OP planning, Forecasting models  including statistical analysis
  • Experience in analytics tools such as: SQL, Excel, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Python, R, Domo, Adobe Analytics (or Google Analytics) and/or equivalent technologies
