Job Summary The research assistant will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a genomics research laboratory specializing in insect vectors of human disease. The research assistant will assist with laboratory safety and compliance, insect husbandry, protocol development, and data collection and analysis. The research assistant will also manage research projects and supervise undergraduate students, both paid workers and those seeking credit hours. Experience with molecular laboratory techniques and data analysis is preferred, but training will be provided.
Responsibilities The duties include, but are not limited to: General Lab Management (organization, protocol development, safety and compliance)
Insect husbandry
Supervision of undergraduate researchers
Molecular techniques
Research Project Management
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in molecular biology techniques and statistical analyses is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Basic understanding of laboratory techniques.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
ABILITIES Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to use sound judgement and work independently.
Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $17.88 per hour.
Pay Band: B5
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
