Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced frontline Mortgage Underwriter with at least 3 years of recent underwriting experience . Candidates must have worked in an underwriting role within the past 12 months to be considered.  YOU MUST BE LOCAL TO PHOENIX IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROLE

This role involves reviewing mortgage files, calculating income, analyzing assets and credit, and making sound loan decisions based on established guidelines. The right person will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of mortgage loan files, including income, assets, credit, and collateral

  • Utilize the client’s loan operating system for accurate data entry

  • Underwrite loans using AUS (DU/LP) or manual methods based on client guidelines

  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant

  • Identify and resolve red flags or issues in the file

  • Issue loan decisions and set clear conditions

  • Review and sign off on conditions to finalize loan files

  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, Loan Officers, and Processors

  • Stay up-to-date on client and investor underwriting guidelines

  • Assist in resolving pre- and post-closing underwriting issues

  • Maintain professionalism in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment

  • Willingness to work over 40 hours per week as needed

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent frontline conventional mortgage underwriting experience

  • Must have worked in an underwriting role within the past 12 months

  • Strong knowledge of income analysis, tax return review, and credit evaluation

  • Understanding of appraisal review and collateral risk

  • Expertise in GSE guidelines and AUS platforms (DU/LP)

  • Strong attention to detail and time management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a digital environment

  • NMLS-MLO Licensure preferred

  • Flexible availability, including occasional extended hours
