CRi is a well-known non-profit organization located throughout Northern VA, Richmond VA , and Maryland that is dedicated to providing quality services to enable individuals with a wide range of disabilities to live as independently as possible.
We are hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! The RN will provide quality skilled nursing care to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in accordance with their needs as prescribed and consistent with ID Waiver Skilled Nursing regulations. The RN will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in planning and service provision, as well as be responsible for coordinating services with family members, and performing nursing assessments and emergency care as needed.
Schedule: Monday - Friday Varied Hours (24 hours/ week; Part-Time)
Location: Multiple locations in Northern Virginia
Hourly Compensation: $42.00/hour
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilize nursing process in caring for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and mental illnesses.
- Participate, as appropriate, in the development, review, and update of an individual program plan as part of the Interdisciplinary Team process.
- Develop, with physician, a medical care plan of treatment (CMS 485) for an individual as needed.
- Other nursing care as required by a physician or identified as a need by an individual.
- Implement (with other IDT members) appropriate protective and preventative health measures including training individuals and staff as needed on appropriate health and hygiene methods, control of communicable diseases, infections, etc.
- Review and evaluation medication systems, including medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and special diets.
- Complete nursing assessment on new admissions, as necessary.
- Conduct on-going assessment/consultation of individual's nursing needs as requested on nursing consultation forms.
- Provide consultation to staff on medical concerns.
- Conduct on-site health related training to staff and individuals including blood borne pathogens and infection control.
- Train staff in detecting signs and symptoms of illnesses or dysfunctions; first aid and basic healthcare skills.
- Monitor the implementation of medication policies and the procedures.
- Conduct on-site monitoring of nutrition policies.
- Educate individuals, family, and staff on the interactive effects of psychotropic medications and other health concerns.
- Develop guidelines/protocols for health/nursing/nutritional needs.
- Communicates effectively and clearly to all staff.
- Responsible for program medication management, consistent of CRi policies & procedures. Promote safe medication administration and ensure constant medication availability.
- Ensure compliance with health/medical requirements per licensure and regulatory authorities.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as may be requested.
- Complete and review incident reports as necessary.
- Ensure training, consultation, nurse delegation or oversight of family member, staff, and other persons responsible for carrying out the Individual Support Plan for the purpose of monitoring the individual’s medical status and administering medications and other medically related procedures consistent with the Nurse Practice Act [18VAC90-20-10 et seq. by statutory authority of Chapter 30 of Title 54.1, Code of Virginia].
- Ensure Credible Skilled Nursing Documentation is completed in accordance to federal, state, and agency guidelines.
- Dispose of drugs and narcotics as required, and in accordance with procedures.
- Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy and drainage bags, as required.
- Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes that provide instructions on “how to do the job,” and ensure a well-educated department.
- Monitor staff to ensure compliance with established safety regulations.
- Ensure that the nursing notes reflect that the plan of care is followed as prescribed.
- Performs other related assignments as required.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Must be, at minimum, a graduate of an accredited RN program.
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a RN in the Commonwealth of Virginia or a state which participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
- At least one (1) year of experience in working with ID/DD population, preferred.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, individuals, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practice.
- Must be able to relate information concerning an individual's condition.
- Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
