Job Description

The Lou Malnati's PR Specialist would be responsible for developing and executing strategic public relations initiatives to maintain and enhance the positive image of the Lou Malnati's pizza brand, focusing on media relations, community engagement, crisis communication, and brand storytelling, while aligning with the company's overall communication goals and upholding the legacy of Chicago-style deep dish pizza.

Key responsibilities may include:

Media Relations:

  • Pitching stories and securing placements in local, regional, and national media outlets (print, broadcast, online, podcasts, YouTube channels).
  • Managing media inquiries and providing accurate information about the company, new menu items, promotions, and special events.
  • Building relationships with journalists and food critics in both traditional and non-traditional media channels.
  • Directing media while in-store filming with the company’s best interest and supporting the store team in managing the media so it doesn’t disrupt guests, team members or the business.
  • Track and analyze media mentions (impressions, value, etc.)

Brand Storytelling:

  • Developing compelling narratives highlighting the history, quality, and unique aspects of Lou Malnati's pizza.
  • Creating engaging content for various channels like press releases, social media, website, and company newsletters.

Community Engagement:

  • Collaborating with local organizations to participate in community events and initiatives.
  • Managing philanthropic efforts and promoting the company's commitment to the community.

Crisis Communication:

  • Executing crisis communication plans to address potential negative publicity effectively.
  • Monitoring social media for issues and responding promptly and appropriately.

Social Media Partnership:

  • Partnering with the company's social media manager to create engaging ad compelling content that enhances Lou Malnati’s presence across social and media platforms.

Event Planning:

  • Coordinating and managing press events, grand openings, promotional activities, employee events, community events and Lou Malnati’s annual Cancer Research Benefit.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • At least two years proven experience in public relations, preferably within the food service industry.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Strong media relations skills and established contacts with relevant journalists.
  • Understanding of social media platforms and strategies for engagement.
  • Crisis communication expertise and ability to manage sensitive situations.
  • On-camera presence that aligns with Lou Malnati’s brand and core values.
  • Ability to generate fun, engaging and news-worthy ideas, content and experiences that will generate brand awareness, positive media attention and guest engagement.
  • Event planning and coordination.
  • Knowledge of Chicago food culture and the Lou Malnati's brand identity.
