Job Description

An innovative and fast-growing AEC firm in Chicago is looking for a Project Accountant to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a collaborative, high-impact environment and is eager to support iconic design and construction projects across the city. This full-time role offers a competitive salary of $60,000–$80,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, generous PTO, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and commuter benefits. The Project Accountant will work closely with project managers and leadership to ensure financial accuracy and drive project success from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities of the Project Accountant:

  • Partner with project managers to track budgets, control costs, and keep projects financially on course
  • Prepare, review, and process vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and client billings
  • Maintain accurate and organized project accounting records and support cost tracking across all active jobs
  • Assist in monthly financial reviews and help forecast project outcomes
  • Ensure billing aligns with contract terms and timelines, and resolve any discrepancies
  • Generate timely financial reports and support strategic decision-making
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to support smooth and efficient month-end close processes

Qualifications of the Project Accountant:

  • At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in the AEC industry or professional services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of project accounting concepts and cost management
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a knack for staying organized under pressure
  • Clear and professional communication skills with a team-focused mindset
  • Experience with industry-specific accounting platforms (such as Deltek or Viewpoint) is a strong plus
