About Where Sit Happens
Where Sit Happens is on a mission to provide compassionate training for both ends of the leash . We’re not into rigid obedience — we’re here to help dogs and their people learn to work with each other, not against each other. Through positive reinforcement and force-free methods, we offer flexible group classes, private in-home lessons, and behavior modification services that make life with dogs more fun and less frustrating.
About the Role
We’re looking for a dog trainer to join our growing team! This role may include leading group classes at our Oxford facility and offering one-on-one private sessions with clients (behavior cases included, depending on experience). If you geek out about body language, love coaching humans as much as dogs, and want to be part of a growing, passionate team— we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
Teach group classes using science-based, reward-based methods (curriculum provided with room for creativity)
Conduct private training sessions in clients’ homes or at our facility — with a focus on real-life skills or behavior modification (depending on your experience)
Develop personalized training plans and written recaps for private clients
Maintain clear communication with clients and team
Continue your education — we’ll support your growth!
You Might Be a Great Fit If You...
Have experience teaching dog training classes or private lessons (or are ready to co-teach and learn!)
Are familiar with positive reinforcement, LIMA and fear free principles
Can confidently work with dogs of different sizes, breeds, and temperaments
Enjoy teaching the human half of the equation!
Are reliable, communicative, and love a good laugh
Have a flexible schedule — evenings or weekends likely required
Are certified through a reputable program (KPA, VSA, etc.)
Perks
Physical Requirements
This is an active, hands-on role that takes place indoors, outdoors and in various types of weather. Our team members should be handling dogs for extended periods. You'll be on your feet most of the time and may need to bend, kneel, or lift up to 50 pounds.
QualificationsTo be successful in this role, you’ll need a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and strong time management skills. Just as important, we’re looking for someone who is self-motivated, dependable, and genuinely passionate about behavior and training. You should feel comfortable working independently, navigating multiple client visits in a day, and making sound decisions on the go. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their professionalism, enjoys collaborating with a team of like-minded professionals and finds fulfillment in making the lives of dogs and their people better everyday!
