Nuclear Island Resident Engineer 

Location: Onsite in Loveland, CO

Pay Rate: $50–$80/hour

Position Type: Contract (via System One)

System One is seeking a highly motivated Nuclear Island Resident Engineer to support supplier activities on-site at James Fisher Technologies in Loveland, Colorado . This role involves working closely with the Sodium Cover Gas and Fuel Handling Teams in support of the Natrium Reactor Project . The successful candidate will provide technical oversight of supplier design, fabrication, and delivery of nuclear equipment and systems.

This position requires deep expertise in system and equipment design, qualification, and hands-on experience in fabrication and operational support. You will act as the primary on-site engineering liaison between the project technical teams and suppliers, reporting to the Sodium Cover Gas Manager, and collaborating closely with the Fuel Handling Team and other engineering and procurement functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee supplier design and delivery activities from concept through final delivery for fuel handling and sodium cover gas equipment.

  • Provide technical support throughout design, fabrication, construction, and testing phases.

  • Coordinate with and provide on-site support at James Fisher Technologies in Loveland, CO.

  • Ensure application of relevant design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANS, ASTM, ASHRAE, IEEE, NFPA).

  • Participate in technical design reviews.

  • Develop and manage testing programs, including execution support and test result evaluation.

  • Provide project management oversight of supplier performance including cost, schedule, and deliverables.

  • Manage submittals and coordinate deliverable reviews with internal technical teams.

  • Collaborate with procurement and contract management staff to support commercial activities.

  • Draft and maintain Statements of Work (SOWs) and technical specifications.

  • Track and support supplier progress to ensure alignment with project milestones and quality expectations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines considered with relevant experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience .

  • Experience with manufacturing oversight, including welding, piping, and fabrication documentation.

  • Familiarity with nuclear-grade quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 .

  • Experience managing supplier contracts and commercial aspects of technical projects.

  • Proficiency in generating SOWs, RFPs, and managing supplier work scope.

  • Strong communication skills with an ability to coordinate across multiple technical teams.

  • Demonstrated integrity, teamwork, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP certification or formal project management training.

  • Experience with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code Section III or Section VIII.

  • Advanced degrees (M.S./Ph.D.) may be credited toward experience.
