About the role

As a Manager for India Payroll, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll process for 1800+ employees, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and driving continuous improvement in payroll systems and processes. We will count on you to have deep expertise in Indian payroll legislation, strong managerial skills, and a commitment to operational excellence Along the way, you will get to:

  • Compliance and Reporting : Ensure end-to-end payroll compliance with all applicable statutory regulations, including tax filings, PF, and gratuity. This includes overseeing internal and statutory audits and preparing various compliance reports and trackers.
  • Operational Management : Lead and manage the entire payroll cycle, including all processes for a large workforce (1800+ employees). This involves managing payroll software systems, conducting reconciliations and variance analyses, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Leadership and Team Development : Supervise, train, and mentor a team of 3-5 to ensure high performance, compliance, and accuracy.
  • Strategic Collaboration : Act as a key liaison between payroll, HR, and finance departments. This includes preparing payroll journals for finance and collaborating with external vendors and tax advisors to streamline operations and ensure compliance.
  • Process Improvement and Automation : Drive initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy through automation, process redesign, and the application of AI tools. This also includes leading payroll-related projects such as system upgrades or integrations following mergers.
  • Specialized and Strategic Responsibilities : Manage complex payroll elements like equity-based compensation (RSU and ESPP), ensuring accurate tax treatment and reporting. Prepare and present key payroll metrics and dashboards to senior leadership for strategic decision-making.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience: 8–12 years in payroll management, preferably in a large-scale organization
  • Education: B.Com or equivalent; MBA in Finance preferred
  • Technical Skill
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI and payroll software (ADP, SAP, etc.)
    • Strong understanding of Indian payroll regulations and statutory compliance.
    • Strong knowledge of Income Tax Act 1961- Payroll Section
    • Sound knowledge of Gratuity Act, 1972, EPFO Act 1952 and other regulations
  • Managerial Skills
    • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
