Job Description

Al's Garden & Home is looking for a Maintenance Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the upkeep and repair of all physical infrastructure, systems and equipment for retail and plant production locations. The role will perform maintenance tasks such as, but not limited to, painting, carpentry, vehicle and building maintenance and landscaping. The goal is to maintain the buildings and common areas in the best possible condition.

Essential Functions

• Promote and maintain an outstanding customer experience that can only be found at Al’s Garden and Home for all guests who enter the retail location.
• Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards.
• Lead a small team of maintenance staff; provide training, schedule work and hold team accountable to high quality work.
• General maintenance and repair of the buildings, vehicles/machinery, heating units, plumbing, electrical system, irrigation and grounds.
• Maintain and troubleshoot greenhouse climate control systems (heating, ventilation, cooling, humidity control).
• Ability to coordinate and schedule vendors and direct contractors on projects more involved than general maintenance and repair on all of the above-mentioned systems.
• Construction and/or fabrication of smaller projects with ability to work independently on projects.
• Embrace a safety culture of injury and accident prevention by following safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain safety signage, fire extinguishers and emergency systems.
• Adhere to all company guidelines, policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent; trade certification a plus.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems, building maintenance technology or relevant field preferred.
• Basic understanding of electrical, irrigation and other systems; in a greenhouse environment a plus.
• Painting, Light welding, Wood construction / carpentry experience preferred
• Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
• Proven experience as maintenance worker.
• Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices
• Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills; experience trouble shooting
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
• Travel to all local area Al’s locations required.

Physical Demands

This job requires the ability to work standing, walking, bending, and lifting 50 + lbs. continuously throughout the day. Must be able to climb ladders, bend and crawl into awkward spaces.

Work Environment

This job can operate on the sales floor and greenhouse, indoor and outdoor, and in an office environment as business requires.
