This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by working to protect California children from lead poisoning and the adverse effects from exposure to lead.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Public Health Medical Officer (PHMO) III, Chief, Care Management Section (CMS) – Direct Services and Outreach to Health Care Providers. The Public Health Nurse (PHN) II will perform the most complex, difficult, and sensitive public health nursing activities in connection with the prevention and management of California children with potential or actual exposure to lead. The PHN II will provide direct case management, coordinate case management services and activities, and provide case management reporting related to children with lead poisoning. The PHN II will oversee and manage case management partnerships with other agencies; develop care management related policies, procedures, and materials, and collaborate with PHMO II on medical provider outreach in local health jurisdictions in California without a contracted childhood lead poisoning prevention program . This position requires moderate travel (up to 60%) throughout California for home visits and occasional meetings with occasional overnight stays as required.
License Requirement for both the PHN II and PHN I
Possession of a valid license as a registered nurse and a valid certificate as a public health nurse in California.

Telework Information
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH’s Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes into consideration an employee’s designated headquarters, as reflected in the duty statement, and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the designated headquarters office will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
