Job Title: General Laborer Mechanical Contractor

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable and motivated General Laborer to join our mechanical contracting team in Durham, NC. The ideal candidate will assist skilled tradespeople in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems. This role involves a variety of physical tasks, supporting both field and shop operations, and contributing to the safe and timely completion of commercial and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Site Preparation & Cleanup Set up work areas, load/unload tools and materials, maintain a clean and organized job site, and remove debris after tasks are completed.

• Material Handling Transport tools, equipment, and materials to work areas; assist with staging and inventory of mechanical components.

• Support Skilled Trades Work alongside HVAC technicians, plumbers, and pipefitters by holding, positioning, and passing tools or materials as directed.

• Basic Installation Assistance Assist in measuring, cutting, threading, and assembling pipes or ductwork under supervision.

• Equipment Operation Safely operate basic power tools, hand tools, and, when certified, forklifts, pallet jacks, or scissor lifts.

• Safety Compliance Follow all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Delivery & Pickup Transport materials to and from job sites as needed.

• Miscellaneous Duties Perform additional labor tasks such as painting, drilling, digging, or assisting with temporary supports, depending on project needs.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods

• Willingness to work indoors, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions

• Basic knowledge of hand tools and construction safety practices

• Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to follow instructions

Preferred:

• Previous experience in construction, mechanical contracting, or HVAC/plumbing work

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

• Forklift or aerial lift certification

• Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with construction drawings

Working Conditions

• Work is performed at commercial and industrial job sites in the Durham, NC area and occasionally surrounding regions.

• May require overtime, early mornings, or weekend work depending on project schedules.

• Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and exposure to noise, dust, and changing temperatures.
