Job Description

We are seeking a driven and results-oriented Field Sales Engineer for our client Rutronik . This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated sales professional with a strong background in electronic component distribution and a true hunter mentality. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in B2B technical sales, the ability to develop new business opportunities, and the skills to engage with customers on both technical and commercial levels.

Position

We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Field Sales Engineer to join Rutronik’s team. This role requires a true hunter mentality, focused on acquiring new customers and developing strong sales strategies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving sales growth, engaging with clients on both technical and commercial levels, and building strong industry relationships.

Objectives and Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

  • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, focusing on revenue growth.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with customers to drive repeat business.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans tailored to the assigned sales region.
  • Negotiate annual demand volumes and framework agreements with purchasing divisions.
  • Work closely with customers to identify technical needs and provide tailored solutions.

Customer & Market Engagement

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, handling both technical and commercial discussions.
  • Leverage support from Field Application Engineers and product managers to develop optimal customer solutions.
  • Maintain strong industry connections to stay informed of market trends and competitor activity.

Technical & Product Knowledge

  • Develop a deep understanding of Rutronik’s product portfolio, including semiconductors, embedded systems, and passive components.
  • Identify market trends and adjust strategies to stay ahead of customer needs.
  • Communicate the value proposition of Rutronik’s solutions effectively to customers.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Utilize SAP-based CRM systems to track sales activities, manage customer interactions, and analyze performance metrics.
  • Work closely with internal teams (including product management, finance, and logistics) to support sales initiatives.
  • Report to sales leadership on sales progress, forecasts, and customer feedback.

Work Environment & Travel

  • This is a remote position with extensive travel required (approximately 80% mainly day trips) within the assigned region.
  • A home office setup will be provided by the company.
  • You must live in Chicago or willing to relocate.

Profile

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field (preferred).
  • Alternatively, a commercial background with engineering-related experience will be considered.
  • Initial experience in sales or distribution within the electronics industry is required, with a strong preference for prior experience in B2B technical sales, distribution sales, or account management.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other CRM systems is a plus.

Skills & Personal Traits

  • Strong sales acumen with a hunter mentality—ability to proactively acquire new customers and close deals.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with engineers, purchasing teams, and senior decision-makers.
  • Highly self-motivated, hands-on, and results-driven, thriving in a dynamic sales environment.
  • Technical understanding of embedded systems, semiconductors, and electromechanical components is a plus.
