Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to lead our safety and compliance initiatives at our ice cream manufacturing facility in Madison, WI. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that ensure a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, and food manufacturing safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and manage site-specific EHS policies and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and accident investigations.
• Lead and facilitate safety training programs for all plant employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing compliance training.
• Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections or inquiries (OSHA, DNR, EPA, etc.).
• Track, analyze, and report on safety metrics (incidents, near misses, lost-time injuries) and develop improvement action plans.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety culture and ensure employee engagement in all safety programs.
• Manage hazardous waste disposal, chemical inventories, and environmental sustainability programs.
• Oversee emergency preparedness, response procedures, and business continuity planning.
• Ensure compliance with food safety requirements that intersect with EHS (e.g., sanitation chemical handling, allergen protocols, etc.).
• Coordinate with maintenance, production, and quality teams to ensure safe equipment operations and workplace conditions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment; food manufacturing preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable EHS regulations.
• Experience with safety training, regulatory reporting, and audit compliance.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Work Environment:

• Ice cream manufacturing facility with exposure to cold storage, production machinery, and food-grade environments.
• Requires regular presence on the plant floor and ability to respond to emergencies or audits as needed.
