Program: Child Advocacy Center

Type: In-person

Pay Type: Salary

Hours: M-F; 8am-5pm; weekends occasionally

Location: Greeley

Travel: 20-30% of the job may require travel to locations inside and outside of Greeley

About Life Stories:

The mission of Life Stories Child Advocacy Center is to provide advocacy and support for abused and neglected children by advancing coordinated investigations, prosecution and victim services. Since 1999, the Child Advocacy Center has provided a child-focused environment to gently support child victims of sexual abuse, other forms of child maltreatment, and witnesses to felony crimes as well as their non-offending family members.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Forensic Interviewer works as part of a multidisciplinary team responding to allegations of child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and witness to violence or crime. The Interviewer conducts child-focused, forensically-sound, legally defensible forensic interviews of alleged child victims and provides emotional, material, and informational support for their non-offending caregivers. The Interviewer testifies as a fact and expert witness in Court as requested through subpoena. This position requires knowledge of child protection/law enforcement systems, child development, child communication, and child trauma related to child abuse.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in creating and maintaining a warm, welcoming environment for clients, agency partners, and coworkers
  • Conducting a forensically sound interview focused on obtaining accurate information which can then be utilized to support any subsequent system or court actions necessary to secure the child’s safety and well-being and facilitate justice in criminal proceedings.
  • Remain current on proper forensic interviewing practices and guidelines and maintain expert awareness of current trends, research, and developments in the field of forensic interviewing, trauma, sexual abuse, offender pathology and other pertinent topics.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in stressful situations
  • Experience in inter-agency collaboration
  • Effective presentation and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to react well under pressure
  • Ability to adapt to change in the work environment, able to deal well with frequent changes, delays and/or unexpected events
  • Support agency awareness and participate in fundraising events

FORENSIC INTERVIEWING

  • Attend an initial minimum 40-hour forensic interview training
  • Provide video recorded forensic interviews for law enforcement and the Dept. of Human Services investigations
  • Conduct forensic interviews at other locations, if needed
  • Remain current on proper forensic interviewing practices and guidelines and maintain expert awareness of current trends, research, and developments in the field of forensic interviewing, trauma, sexual abuse, offender pathology and other pertinent topics
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic data collection system and files at all times
  • Testify in criminal and civil court proceedings
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary case review process
  • Participate quarterly in peer supervision
  • Respond to subpoenas and testify when requested
  • Provide training for partner agencies and community members
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including training and national conferences about forensic interviewing and child abuse

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, human development or related field.
  • 3 years of significant experience working with children, preferably in advocacy, mental health, counseling, education, or other closely related fields.
  • Ability to engage children of all ages and work with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong crisis management and communication skills.
  • Must complete a 40-hour, in-person forensic interview training.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and complete fingerprinting requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, social work, human services, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of significant experience working with children, preferably in advocacy, mental health, counseling, education, or another closely related field.
  • Experience conducting forensic interviews.

  • $55,000-$60,000 - a salary outside this range may be considered for well qualified candidates

SCHEDULE:

  • 8am-5pm
