Assistant Manager – Retail Garden Center

Help Lead a Thriving Garden Center Through Every Season 

Strader’s Garden Centers is looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant Manager to support daily operations and team leadership at one of our local retail garden centers. This role is perfect for someone who can manage the details while staying active on the floor — helping staff, delighting customers, and keeping plants and products looking their best as we transition from summer to the holiday season.

Key Responsibilities:

Retail Operations & Product Oversight

• Manage inventory and ordering of plants, hard goods, and seasonal items
• Ensure proper receiving, labeling, storage, and care of products
• Support seasonal transitions — from outdoor blooms to holiday décor
• Maintain plant health and store cleanliness inside and out

Team Leadership

• Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and daily task assignments
• Lead by example with strong floor presence and positive team coaching
• Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to company policies
• Foster a supportive and productive work environment

Customer Service & Sales

• Ensure a welcoming and helpful customer experience
• ​​​​​​​Resolve issues and complaints with professionalism
• Support cashier operations, returns, deliveries, and plant warranties
• Maintain attractive merchandising and clear signage throughout the store

• Oversee register operations, safe handling, drawer reconciliation, and deposits​​​​​​​
• Assist with scheduling and seasonal staffing needs
• Ensure compliance with safety, legal, and consumer regulations

What We’re Looking For:

• Prior garden center management or supervisory experience
• ​​​​​​​Strong leadership and communication skills
• Knowledge of plants, gardening, or seasonal merchandise a plus
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in both indoor and outdoor conditions
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays during busy seasons
• Proficient in time management, task delegation, and customer service
